ABOUT ROCK'N'ROLL REVOLUTION
Keeping Glasgow's Rock 'n' Roll spirit alive.
Rock'n'Roll Revolution Jive Club was founded in 2014 by Allan and Brenda Houston.
But our story with Rock 'n' Roll began long before that.
It's a story of Scottish championships, World Championships, Glasgow dance halls, the Wreckin' Crew, the legendary Lindella Club and generations of people brought together through dancing.
Today, we're proud to continue that tradition through our friendly adult jive classes in Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch.
MEET ALLAN
Allan Houston
Allan's Rock 'n' Roll journey began in 1980.
He went on to become a four-time Scottish Champion, winning every other major honour in Scotland at the time.
In 1989, Allan and his dance partner finished runners-up in the UK Championships, qualifying them to represent Scotland at the World Rock 'n' Roll Championships.
His dancing career has taken him throughout the UK and Ireland performing cabaret, appearing on television and dancing at major sporting events.
Allan was also one of the founding members of the Wreckin' Crew and performed with the Lindella Dance Team.
His teaching credentials are just as impressive. Allan passed his Rock 'n' Roll Membership examination in 1992, alongside qualifications in Latin American and Freestyle, before achieving his Fellowship in 2011.
But Rock 'n' Roll is more than a list of titles and qualifications for Allan.
It's in the family.
THE LINDELLA LEGACY
Allan's mum, Betty Allan, was the owner of Glasgow's famous Lindella Club – a name woven into the history of Glasgow's music and dancing scene.
Allan later became one of the teachers at the Lindella, helping another generation discover Rock 'n' Roll.
That heritage remains at the heart of Rock'n'Roll Revolution today.
We're proud of where we've come from – but we're even more passionate about introducing Rock 'n' Roll to the next generation of dancers.
MEET BRENDA
Brenda Houston
Brenda's own connection with dancing also started long before Rock'n'Roll Revolution.
Her parents were taught to dance by Allan's mum, Betty, and growing up around their stories gave Brenda a desire to follow in their footsteps.
Brenda has been part of Rock'n'Roll Revolution since the club began in 2014.
Today, she helps teach the classes, welcomes new members and introduces beginners to their first jive steps and routines.
Brenda also organises the club's events and displays and is heavily involved in everything that happens behind the scenes at Rock'n'Roll Revolution.
In June 2019, Brenda achieved her Rock 'n' Roll Associate qualification.
ROCK'N'ROLL REVOLUTION TODAY
What started in 2014 has grown into a fantastic community of people brought together by dancing.
We've taught hundreds of steps, performed at events, festivals, care homes and weddings and, most importantly, watched people arrive saying:
"I can't dance!" …and discover that actually, they can.
You don't have to be a champion.
You don't need a dance partner.
And you definitely don't need any previous experience.
You just need to take that first step through the door.
